Privacy policy

Last updated:

This policy explains how CrowdConnect Financial Services (Pty) Ltd, trading as Crowd Connect, handles personal information when you visit our website, create an account, invest, or submit a business proposal.

Information we collect

  • Account and profile information: your name, contact details, identity number, date of birth, addresses, account credentials, and information about the business you represent, where supplied.
  • Investment and business information: proposals, pitch decks and supporting documents, investment amounts, share purchase requests, holdings, sale listings, and information about ownership and source of funds.
  • Verification and compliance records: verification identifiers and outcomes, screening results used for review, evidence references, compliance decisions and their expiry dates.
  • Communications: enquiries, complaints and correspondence with our team.
  • Technical and audit information: IP addresses, browser information, session information and records of account access, approvals and share movements.

We collect information you provide and records created when you use the platform. Verification providers may also obtain information from identity documents, screening databases and public sources.

How we use information

We use information to create and manage accounts, communicate with you, review proposals, process investment and share-related requests, maintain ownership records, handle complaints, protect accounts, and investigate misuse.

We also use information to verify identity and authority, review source of funds, assess financial-crime risks, and meet applicable legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations. Providing information for required checks is necessary to use the relevant investment or trading features.

Where our team uses AI assistance to prepare a business summary or due-diligence draft, proposal content may be sent to OpenAI for that task. Staff review is still required; an AI draft does not grant AML clearance.

Identity verification and AML screening

When you start hosted verification, we share your email address and an account-specific identifier with Sumsub. Sumsub collects the documents and, where required, selfie or liveness information directly through its verification service. These checks may involve processing facial or biometric information, as explained in Sumsub's notice and the verification flow.

When screening is enabled, checks can include sanctions, politically exposed persons, watchlists and adverse media, with ongoing screening for changes. We use verification and screening outcomes to decide whether an account can proceed with protected activities. Missing or inconclusive results can place an activity on hold for compliance review.

A possible match does not itself establish wrongdoing. Our compliance team reviews findings and supporting evidence. You can contact us if you believe information or a decision is incorrect.

Read Sumsub's privacy notices before completing verification. The hosted flow collects verification documents with Sumsub; documents you separately upload to Crowd Connect are held as part of our platform records.

Sharing and overseas processing

Information may be accessed by staff responsible for operating the platform, reviewing applications or carrying out compliance work, and by service providers supporting hosting, communications, verification or business-document analysis.

Business proposals, selected business documents and sale-listing details approved for publication may be visible to visitors or other platform users. Consider what personal or confidential information is included in material you submit for publication.

We may disclose relevant records to regulators, law-enforcement authorities, courts or professional advisers when required or permitted by applicable law, or when necessary to resolve a dispute or investigate misuse.

Service providers may process information outside Namibia. Their processing arrangements and applicable privacy notices may differ from ours. Contact us for questions about the providers used for your information.

Cookies and external services

The website uses cookies to maintain your session and support sign-in, language preferences and the optional remember-me feature. You can remove or block cookies in your browser; doing so may prevent sign-in or other account features from working.

External links and embedded content, where present, may send technical information to their providers and use their own cookies. Their privacy notices apply when you interact with those services.

Retention and security

We retain information for operating your account and for applicable compliance, ownership, audit, dispute-resolution and legal requirements. Closing an account does not necessarily remove investment, share-ledger, compliance or audit records. Retention depends on the type of record and any applicable obligations; contact us about a particular record.

The platform uses password hashing, account access controls and audit records to help protect information. No online system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your sign-in details private and report suspected account misuse promptly.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can update information available in your profile and contact us to request access to or correction of your information, account closure, or deletion where applicable. You can also raise concerns about screening results or ask for a compliance decision to be reviewed.

We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some requests may be limited by applicable law or the need to retain compliance and ownership records. Withdrawing consent to a verification step may mean we cannot provide features that require that verification.

Please use our contact page and identify your message as a privacy request. Do not send passwords or identity-document copies through a general enquiry. If your concern is not resolved, you can use our complaints process.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or requirements change. The date above identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated through the website or account communications where appropriate.
